The Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan at Balepet is one of the most popular and the oldest restaurants in Bengaluru. This restaurant is almost 100 years old located on the busy street of Balepet.
Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan
The Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan is serving its customers since 1926, and it will hit the century in 5 years. This restaurant is known for its Sagu Dosa and Masala Dosa.
The restaurant maintains two branches, one branch in Balepet and another in Basavanagudi.
My order for the day was:
- Masala Dosa
- Sagu Dosa
- Vada Sambar
- Vegetable Pulao
Sagu Dosa & Masala Dosa
The only difference between Masala Dosa and Sagu Dosa is the stuffings inside. The Masala Dosa comes with potato fillings, and the Sagu Dosa comes with mixed vegetable fillings. The Sagu Dosa is special to Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan.
I had Sagu Dosa at the restaurant and packed the Masala Dosa home. The Sagu Dosa was crunchy, soft, and tasty, and I felt it in every bite I took. It was big enough to make your stomach full. The Sagu dosa was far better than the one you get in any regular restaurant in the neighbourhood.
Sagu Dosa
If you do not appreciate potato stuffing, then you can opt for Sagu or without any stuffing. I found the Sagu to be a little spicy. If you are not used to spicy food, you should opt for Masala Dosa instead of Sagu Dosa.
Is this the best Dosa in the city?
I would say it is one of the best. When you compare the Masala Dosa with other popular restaurants such as MTR, CTR, and Vidyarthi Bhavan, the Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan will face tough competition.
Vada Sambar
The waiter realized that I was the first-timer in the restaurant. He was courteous and spared his time to answer some of my queries. He served hot vada dipped in sambar. I felt the sambar was slightly sweetish, but it was tasteful. It was an ultimate combo.
Vegetable Pulao
I read somewhere that all varieties of rice items at this were remarkable. It turned out right with the vegetable pulao that I ordered. The veggies were tender. The meal was slightly sweetish but spice at the same time. I guess the sweetness comes from the toasted bread in the pulao.
Krishna Bhavan Ambiance
The Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan at Balepet is no modern building. It’s been there for 100 years now. As you enter the restaurant, you will be surprised by the floor size. It is so big.
The restaurant has had regular customers for several decades who feel nostalgic when they come here.
Without a doubt, it is a perfect family restaurant for authentic South Indian vegan dishes.

- The Masala Dosa and Sagu Dosa will not accompany sambar. You will have to ask for it. Yes, it is true.
- Unfortunately, the restaurant did not provide tissue paper when I requested one.
